I try to keep this blog as happy-go-lucky and positive and bright as possible. There’s enough darkness in this world and I want Dwell Beautiful to be a happy little corner of the internet! But lately, the darknessĀ in this world has been overwhelming the past few weeks. Military coups, murdered cops, police brutality towards blacks, mass shootings, terror attacks… it breaks my heart. It breaks my heart to wake up to more bad news each morning.
That quote just resonates with me so deeply these days. The entire world is hurting and it’s so hard to know what to do about it. It’s so easy to just feel helpless. When the whole world is broken, what can one person do? I’ve been thinking about that a lot these days.
And the only answer I can come up with, besides praying, is to shine my own light. Show my love, compassion, and respect for others. Use my gifts to inspire and help people. Do small acts of kindness for those I meet. Shine as a light for Jesus in a dark, dark world. You know that quote from Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” ? That’s what I think about these days. If I can show love and shine bright and teach any future children I have to love and shine bright, then maybe, just maybe I can effect a little change and bring about a slightly more beautiful world.
And you have that power within yourself, too. Whenever you feel overwhelmed by the darkness in this world, remember that you have the light. You carry the fire. You hold in your soul the power to make this world a little bit more beautiful. And if you ever need that reminder, then feel free to print out this ‘Shine Your Light’ free printable art and hang it where you can see it and be heartened.
God bless.
