Hey all. It’s been an interesting past week here over in Washington state. We’ve had nice weather then cloudy weather. But the main headlines plastering the news have been about the shooting over at Seattle Pacific University that occurred last Thursday. I have many friends who have gone there and still go there, as well as work there. My best friend did a year of nursing school there. I have been on it’s beautiful campus. The innocence was taken from that campus last week as a shooter claimed the life of one and injured 3 others. It could have been a whole lot worse, but heroic actions were taken by a student, who tackled the gunman to the ground and held him until police arrived. Though the toll is less than that of other school shootings in the news recently, it is no less shocking and tragic. These kinds of things can happen to anyone at anytime, even though we never think it really will. Take some time and hug all of your loved ones a little tighter today.
Over at Sooter Cottage I’ve been trying to figure out what style I want my house to fall under, as I’m still in the early stages of transforming it! I want to have a vision to work towards, a style to guide what pieces I choose and makeovers I take on. One of my favorite design trends right now is the rustic industrial look. I love the warmth of homey rustic wood and the contrasting sharp and smokey metals. They contrast and compliment each other so well that I knew I needed to have some of this hot home decor trend influence in my home design! After scouring the web, I’ve found some great rustic industrial touches that you can add to each of the rooms in your house. Take a look below and get inspired!
Rustic Industrial Kitchen/Dining
Getting the rustic industrial look in your kitchen or dining space can be as involved as re-doing all of your cabinets and walls or it can be as simple as swapping out your dining chairs or adding a new light fixture. Metal chairs are really popular for dining rooms and kitchen nooks right now and you can never go wrong with switching out pendant lighting above your island or the chandelier in your dining room!

Rustic Industrial Living Room
Lots of fun leather furniture and metal piping can really kick the rustic industrial feel in your living room up a notch. Look for side tables with metal hardware, antique-looking lamps, and old push carts that can be transformed into the perfect swanky bar cart! I’m SO in love with the metal pipe bookshelf, BTW. There are lots of tutorials out in the interwebs for making your own industrial pipe shelving. I need to make myself one, STAT!

Rustic Industrial Bedroom
Reclaimed Wood Bedframe found here.
If you want to turn your bedroom into a rustic industrial haven, you can make a big impact with a metal or rustic wood bedrame. If your budget is smaller, look for cool industrial pieces like lamps or rugs. My fave is the little card catalog! Thrift stores and garage sales are great places to find pieces you can refinish for a rustic industrial style for less. The numbered dresser above can be achieved by sanding down and staining/distressing and old chest of drawers and then stenciling the numbers on for a cool unique piece!

Rustic Industrial Bathroom
Bathrooms are usually pretty hard to totally update without changing things like tile, cabinets and configuration of showers and tubs. But all hope is not lost! You can add plenty of rustic industrial details to your bathroom to give it a new sense of style. Look for cost-effective industrial lighting options and new sink fixtures if you have the extra funds. Little details like wire mesh baskets and a pipe bar towel holder can really give a pop to your design without breaking the bank!
I love the rustic industrial look! Such a great neutral color palette that you can add pops of color to here and there. Great round up of finds. I’m digging that wooden bed frame 😛
I love how neutral and versatile it is, too. And the bed frame is absolutely to die for! Too bad I just got a new one :/ haha
I don’t know how I didn’t see this until today, but this is an AMAZING round up! I’m drooling over these gorgeous finds!
I’m drooling too! If I could just make my house look like a catalog spread, that’d be fantastic haha 😉
Where can I find this wooden shelf with towel bar? This would look great in my small bathroom.
Hi Nancy – apologies for the delayed response – I was out of the country and am just now getting back on top of things! You can find the towel bar on Etsy here: http://rstyle.me/n/cs88zxb5dm7. I know it’ll look great in your bathroom! Happy shopping 🙂
