Minted Art Gallery Wall

As you guys probably know, we’ve been in the midst of a renovation on one of our bedrooms. When we first moved into our house we were met with baby blue beadboard and nautical baby blue boat wallpaper. Oh. MYGosh. It had to go. So we tore all that out and underneath the beadboard we found this:

Insert ‘Psycho’ murder knife music here [eee! eee! eee!]. Layers upon layers of weirrrdddd wallpaper and random paint splotches. And the whole bottom half of the wall was not drywall. Oh no, it wasn’t drywall. It was patched with random pieces of plywood held in place with blue painter’s tape. Bluepainter’stape! For the love.

Luckily we were able to get a contractor in to hang a super thin layer of drywall over the top of all that mess. No ripping out the old drywall or trying to strip the wallpaper or patch the holes! After everything was dry we painted the walls a beautiful shade of gray [called ‘Flannel Gray,’ which is very fitting for living in the PNW]

What a beautiful blank canvas to work with! With a big wall like that I knew it would be perfect for a gallery wall! The space was just begging for it ๐Ÿ™‚ To center and ground the gallery wall I immediately knew I had to go with some prints from Minted.

I was given free product by Minted for this post but was not compensated in any other way. All opinions, words, and ideas are my own. For my full disclosure policy, click HERE. * denotes an affiliate link. There is no extra cost to you but it helps keep Dwell Beautiful up and running!

Minted is the. most. AMAZING company ever. They are fantastic for stationery and wedding invites*, party decor*, custom fabric*, and my personal favorite, art prints*. They have the BEST art prints! All of their prints are designed by independent artists, so there are so many different styles and depictions to chose from. It’s so hard to narrow down my favorites! After much deliberation I decided on these three beauties:

For my anchor piece I picked “Gesture” by Kelly Ventura* – the colors and patterns are just so vibrant and beautiful. For my accent pieces I picked “Pining for Pineapple” by Joni Tyrrell* and “Let’s Get Lost” by Sam Dubeau*. I feel all these pieces just work so well together – the bold color and lines and a lighthearted and poppy theme. Perfect for our new office space/lounge!

I gathered a bunch of other prints (some of them I made myself!), magazine spreads, postcards, and other picture frames and elements and laid them all out.

When hanging a gallery wall, I alway start by hanging the biggest piece of artwork and then layering on around that. So up my first piece of Minted art went, and dang it looks good!

A lot of people like to plan out their gallery walls first, usually by using paper cutouts of the frame and then taping and rearranging them until they like the look. But me? I like to live dangerously. Like on the edge, you guys. So I just kind of pick frames as I go and put them up and kind of build it like a jigsaw puzzle (except I don’t have the lid with the finished picture on it).

I worked hard to mix up the look of the frames and made sure I didn’t put similar ones right next to each other (i.e. a white frame next to a white frame or a real photo next to a real photo). I also threw in some other elements, like one of my gold glitter banners, my adventure pallet wood art, my recycled magazine art and some little silver plastic birds that my sister got for me a long time ago. After adding on each piece in turn I ended up with an amazingly GORGEOUS gallery wall! Have a gander, friends:

Gah, I love it SO MUCH. I ย might add more to it as time goes on, but for now I’m completely enamored with how it looks. The fun colors, textures, shapes, and sizes, just all add to a beautiful tapestry of visual interest. It’s quite impressive when you walk in the room and so many people have told me they love it already! I’m still not done with this room yet, and I’m hoping to post a final reveal sometime in July. I need to find/make a few more pieces to really boost the lounge/hangout vibe. But for now I will just drool over my Minted art pieces and the beautiful gallery wall they have inspired.
