You guys, this has been a loooooonnnggg time coming. And I’m so so excited that this big project is finally done! Remember my office lounge styleΒ board that I made… ohhh… ages ago?? Well we FINALLY finished the lounge and home office makeover! It took a while to slowly transform this room from a baby blue beadboard nightmare to something that is modern and comfy and totally us. Here’s a refresher of what it looked like when we moved in almost 2 years ago:
Like I said, baby blue beadboard nightmare. With a dash of nautical boats thrown in, just for funsies. Definitely not our style! It was basically just a dumping ground for all the stuff we didn’t know what to do with. So we ripped out the beadboard but underneath it was even worse.
*Insert psycho knife noise here* Eee! Eee! Eee! A mish-mash of random wallpapers, with large chunks of the drywall cut out and filled with plywood and painter’s tape. Say wha? None of it made sense.
So to solve the problem we had the drywall replaced, painted it a lovely shade of gray (Flannel Grey from Behr, which is fitting in the PNW!) Some furniture and projects later and we now have this beauty to hang out in:
Ahhhhh! Helllooooo gorgeous! This space turned out so amazing and it’s such a comfy place to hang out or work. Be prepared for the deluge of pictures – I just can’t stop gushing over this space!
The 4th wall in this room is actually french doors that lead to our master bedroom. Sort of strange, but that’s what the previous owners decided to put in. When the time comes, we will be changing this lounge/office into a nursery (let’s be real, it’s already looking partially like a nursery!) and then we will have the french doors open so getting to baby will be easier. Until then it will just sort of be an interesting window. Haha
There were so many projects that went into making this lounge/office into what it is. From Craigslisting a couch to Β revamping an old dresser, it was fun putting this office and hang out space together! One of the comfiest spaces in the room is the sofa. It’s an Ikea model, but I vamped it up and customized it by switching out the boring metal legs for some beautiful ones from PrettyPegs. PrettyPegs makes all sorts of fun and beautiful legs that you can put on sofas, chairs, tables and more. I picked a lovely mid century modern wood and gold set that complements the different wood tones in my office splendidly! They were super easy to screw on.
One of my favorite projects that I’ve completed for this room is my dresser makeover. I think it just looks so much more custom with the stained wood fronts!
It’s also the perfect place for some good books, a candle, and some mugs for coffee or tea, emphasizing the lounge part of this space. I just love kicking my feet up on my golden pouf with a cuppa and a new book! The kitties love hanging in here too.
I think my absolute most favorite part is my gallery wall that I put up using some amazing prints from Minted. The bright pops of color and then fun designs just make me smile every time I walk in the room. I just love the visual interest it brings to the space. I think I could stare at it all day!
I hung my pom pom garland in the window and I think it adds a nice and whimsical touch that goes well with my DIY modern mobile. I like that this space doesn’t take itself too seriously and has lots of room for fun!
You can tell I have a love for gallery walls as you can see my travel gallery wall just outside our lounge office in the hallway!
On one wall is where I have a little mini office set up. This computer is the one I use for my computer software coding/testing contractor work. I used the desk that I had since college and added a spare kitchen chair. I recently recovered a hand-me-down rocking chair Β and I think it finishes off the corner nicely.
Also I’m loving myΒ awesome DIY triangle shelves with my succulent watercolor art! They are the perfect place to store some trinkets and treasures and I love the modern look they lend to the space above the desk.
Doesn’t that Peruvian alpaca blanket look just the coziest?? Perfect hang out lounge spot π
I added my DIY geometric fox art to the two walls surrounding the couch and they fit just perfectly. I like having a theme of black and white with neutrals like wood tones and gold because the combo is just timeless. Plus I can always throw in other color accents without making a big commitment.
And that’s the tour! If you’ve made it all the way to the end – CONGRATULATIONS! Once again, sooo sorry (but not really) for all the pictures. I know it’s a lot! But it just shows how much I really love and enjoy this space. I often bring my laptop in here to work on blog stuff, or curl up on the couch with a cat in my lap. It really has been a journey getting this room put together – life always seems to get in the way, doesn’t it? But now we have a fun and inviting space to hang out together or with friends or just get down and get some work done. Hooray for crossing something off the to-do list π
Such a fun place to hang out! I love the neutral color scheme with pops of gold and bright colors! Looks great and I’m looking forward to the triangle tutorial!
Thanks so much, Katie! So glad to finally have it done π It’s one of my new fave spaces to hang out in! Triangle tutorial is coming next Monday, so be on the lookout! π
This room turned out GORGEOUS!!!! I love every bit of it!!! Those triangle shelves are really cool, can’t wait for the tutorial on those!!! And of course can’t wait for this room to end up being a nursery π
Aww, thank you SO much! So happy to have it finally finished. Tutorial for the shelves is coming next Monday! And haha, it will be a nursery in good time π
This is absolutely beautiful Erika!! I am in LOVE with those triangle shelves, the gold pouf, and the black & white accents! Gorgeous makeover π
Thanks so much, Lindi! It’s definitely my happy place now π So glad to have it done!
I love the color combo in here and how we can see all of your crafts and DIYs!! You did an awesome job!
Thanks so much, Em! We really put a lot into this space and it’s so nice that it’s finally done and we can hang out in it π
OH MY GOSH! It’s SO beautiful Erica!!! That gallery wall looks AHMAZING and the rocking chair turned out perfectly! LOVE it all my friend!!!
Thanks so much, Krisit!!! I’m in love with the space and pretty proud of myself for making that rocking chair slipcover! That was probably one of the hardest projects in this room haha. Definitely a happy place for me now! π
Oh my gosh! This is incredible! Those foxes! The pom pom garland! The gallery wall! That throw! Everything, love it! Well done!
My only worry is that I am about to install blue beadboard in my bathroom, though admittedly only to half height and in a more French shutter blue, but I so hope it doesn’t end up like your before!! Eep!
D’aww thank you so much Anna!! xoxo π And I don’t have anything against beadboard – it’s all over our house! Which I think is one of the main reasons why I wanted to take it out of this room – gotta mix it up! I think a french blue half wall will be so much prettier than the baby blue that I had. Can’t wait to see it!! π
Such a beautiful makeover! Great job! I love the colours and the patterns. Besides, white + wood is my favourite combination. π
Thank you so much, Maja!! Wood + white is one of my favorite combos of all time too π Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, Erica, what a total 180! Love, love, love this room! The color pallet is my favorite and I too have a deep and abiding love for gallery walls. Just beautiful. I can’t wait for the tutorial in those shelves π thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much, Shonee!! It really is a total transformation and it’s definitely a room that makes me smile now instead of cringe! Tutorial for the shelves coming up this week π
So much I love about this space!! It looks so chic but also relaxing at the same time. And all the personal DIYs really make it unique. I might need to make some of those triangle shelves for our nursery π
Thanks so much, Bre! The triangle shelves really are super fun and I’m looking forward to styling them for a nursery once we hit that point! π
I just love this makeover! And those fox prints are awesome!
Thanks so much, Janelle! We really love this new space – it’s just too much fun π
