Well, it’s the end of another month (how did that happen??), so that means it’s time for a Life Lately update! If you’re new to this series, Life Lately is a monthly udpate of what’s going on in my neck of the woods, things that I’m loving, and stuff I’m looking forward to. If you want to get into what’s going on in my head, then feel free to read along below!
Man oh man, May is already over? I feel like time just flew by. I say that every month, but it’s true! Did you know that your perception of time changes as you get older? When you are young, like elementary school age, a month feels like a very long time and you experience it as such, but the older you get, the shorter it feels and the faster it goes by. I don’t really understand why, but there you have it. Science.
Here’s what’s been going on in my life lately – let me know what you’ve been up to in the comments below!
What I’m Reading: Youuuuuu guessed it! I’m still reading the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. I’m now on book 5, The Fiery Cross. Still awesome and still amazing. Jamie is a heartthrob and Claire is bada$$. Read it. Spoiler alert: I’ve also been reading some scripts… (check out ‘what I’m excited for’ below for all the details).
What I’m Binge-Watching: I’m still going through Gilmore Girls while I’m blogging and doing my software coding job, but I only have a handful of episodes left! I can’t wait for the reboot revival(!!!), but until then I’m in need of something new to watch. Anyone have any suggestions? When I’m with the hubby, we are always watching our two favorite shows – Grimm and The Blacklist, as well as The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but I need something to watch on my own when I’m working – give me some ideas! 🙂
What I’m Creating: I actually haven’t been creating a ton lately… *gasp*. Life has just been so busy that there hasn’t been much time to do any creating, either for pleasure or for the blog. My last DIY/crafty project that I did this month was May’s DIY Challenge, where I made an air dry clay ring holder! I really need to get back to creating. *Hangs head in sadness and shame*
What I’m Needing: Motivation. With all the hullabaloo with wedding weekend and work and other projects it’s so easy for me to get paralyzed with being overwhelmed and I resort to holing myself up in my room and binge-watching Netflix. Which is no bueno. Welllll, it’s good for my soul, but not for my bank account, or social life, or a myriad of other things. So, I’m hoping I can find the motivation to keep on truckin’ and cross those things off my to-do list!
What I’m Listening to: Besides Netflix? Hah. Not a lot right now at the moment actually, unless I’m in the car and even then it’s usually just whatever’s on the radio. I do want to listen to more of X Ambassadors and Kaleo as I really dig their songs when I hear them!
What I’m Wearing: It’s my brother-in-law’s wedding this weekend and that means it’s time to get fancy! I’ll be wearing this lovely navy lace number and these fun gold glitter wedges to party in. When I’m just lounging around the house (or I guess you could call it “working” hah) I’ve been digging some adorable Pop! Star Wars t-shirts that my hubby got me – they are so new they aren’t even available for retail sale yet so I can’t show you a pic, but trust me, they’re adorable.
What I’m Dreaming about: I’m dreaming about getting back to work on some book ideas I’ve had floating around in my head. It’s always been a dream and life goal of mine to write novels and doing all this great reading lately has inspired me to think about picking it back up again. I’m not sure when I will find the time, but I realized that if it’s something I really want to pursue, then I’m going to have to make it work!
What I’m Excited For: I worked up the nerve and auditioned for community theatre a couple of weeks ago. I used to be really into the theatre scene when I was in high school but hadn’t done anything with it in the past 10 years. So I pulled together the courage and auditioned…. and I got in!! It’s not a typical play, it’s a collection of short plays and I got lead parts in two of them! I’m so excited to finally be back on stage and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
What I’m Worried about: See above! Hah. While I’m super excited and proud of myself for getting into two different plays, I’m also fairly nervous and worried about how it will go. We only get 3-4 rehearsals before opening night, which isn’t very much time at all to do all the memorizing I need to do! It’s been a decade+ since I’ve been on stage and I’m just hoping and praying it goes well and that I don’t make any mistakes or make a fool out of myself.
What I’m Learning: Still working on living in the present. This month has been sort of a whirlwind with all my different day jobs, theatre stuff, and general home/wife/friend/family duties. It’s so easy to get caught up in looking ahead and trying to plan and nail down every last detail, so I’m trying to remind myself daily to slow down and enjoy the moments I’m in as I’m living them.
What I’m Loving: Sleeping in. I love sleep. There, I said it. When I get to sleep in on the weekends, it is such a glorious and amazing feeling. Being all curled up with the hubby under a fluffy duvet with a couple of purring kitties is my ideal Saturday morning. Yes. Yes. Yes.
What’s been going on in your life lately?
Oh my gosh that’s so exciting about the theater! I had no idea you were into that. Congrats and I’m sure you’ll kill it! Also..are you caught up on Blacklist? omg…I can’t deal. And I just finished the first season of The Killing on Netflix and it’s SO good! Definitely should check it out if you need a new show! Have so much fun at the wedding this weekend! xo
Thanks, Bre! Yeah it’s definitely been a while since I’ve done theater, but I’m excited (and a little nervous) to give it another go! We have 2 episodes left to catch up on the Blacklist but OMG SO MANY CRAZY THINGS HAVE HAPPENED. I almost can’t deal. I haven’t seen The Killing yet, but I’ll definitely put it on our to-watch list 🙂 The wedding went well and I managed to see two exciting things in South Dakota: the waterfall and the corn palace 😉
