Whelp, another month has flown by and summer is drawing to a close. Which I’m kinda sad about and kinda happy about (any fellow fall lovers out there?!) but it never ceases to blow my mind that time flies so quickly. Wanna know what’s been going on in my world this month? Check out my August Life Lately update below to see what’s been going down 🙂
What I’m Reading:
Next up on my reading list is be Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Book Store – I haven’t started yet, mainly because I’ve been in a post-book funk after I finished the last Outlander book. Does that ever happen to you? Where you get so involved and immersed into the world of a book that when it’s over you feel depressed? Yeah, it’s like that. Womp womp. I’m also reading through The Breakout Novelist to prep myself for really jumping in and writing my own novel.
What I’m Binge-Watching:
Hubby and I are still watching Mad Men and we are still totally intrigued by it. I basically yell at the TV every episode because the characters make SO. MANY. HORRIBLE. LIFE. DECISIONS. Not one character is truly “good” – there are so many different gray levels and it’s just fascinating to watch their train wreck lives (is that bad??) I also finally got around to watching the three A Very Potter Musical installments on YouTube and OMG so. hilarious. If you love humor and Harry Potter then these are for you. HILARIOUS. I die.
What I’m Creating:Â
I recently put up a whole new gallery wall in my front entry way! I worked with World Market and got to put together a really colorful and useful space that I’m just totally in love with. Gallery walls are actually one of my favorite home decor things to put together – I just love the challenge of figuring out where each piece goes!
What I’m Needing:Â
Still needing a vacation! Even in the summer, each week has been busy busy busy, so a little escape is exactly what I need. And the awesome thing is, I’m going to get one! Well, a little weekend getaway at least 🙂 Hubby and I are going to spend a couple of nights on the Seattle waterfront in an AirBNB house literally right on the beach for our 5 year anniversary (BTW 5 years?! What??). I mean, it’s a Washington beach, so it’s rocky and not sandy, but it’s going to be so relaxing and fun to get away for a few days with my love 🙂
What I’m Listening to:Â
Not listening to a whole lot these days, if I’m honest. I mostly only listen to music when I’m in the car, and when I’m home it’s either Netflix or silence. I’m not sure why, but I just seem to get work faster when it’s totally quiet. However, I did recently discover the musical genre known as electro swing and it’s AWESOME. If you love big band swing music with a modern beat, you’ll dig it.
What I’m Wearing:Â
It’s been back in the 90s again, so I’ve been living in skirts, dresses, yoga capris and tank tops during the day. I like to keep it casssssuuuuall (read: as comfy and low-key as possible) over here. But I’m also super excited to start wearing more leggings and sweaters and boots. Yezzzzzz, please.
What I’m Dreaming about:Â
I’m still dreaming about my novel. Like I mentioned above I’ve been reading some fundamental-type writing help books to get my mind back in writing mode and I’m finally going to get started on it this week. Send me all the good vibes and mojo so I can stay on track and not give up on this dream!
What I’m Excited For:
I’m excited for the anniversary getaway with my hubby that I mentioned above. We don’t really get a ton of free time together, so I’m stoked that we will get some intentional quality time away from all of the to-do’s and distractions at home. I’m also still excited to plan our Scotland trip that we hope to take next year!! 🙂 I’ve been pining for Scotland for basically EVER and I can’t wait to make that dream a reality!
What I’m Worried about:
I’m not too worried about anything right now, actually! That’s a nice feeling 🙂 A little concerned about making sure I stay on track with my personal health/exercise regiment and my writing plan, since I’m known to slack after a while. But the good news is is that I can always jump right back on if I fall of the bandwagon. So I’m trying to not get too anxious!
What I’m Learning:
I’m learning what it’s like to try to be an adult and make real life plans and schedules. (HAH). All through high school and college I never really made an effort to be healthy or get on a consistent exercise schedule, but now I’m realizing just how important it is to take care of yourself. So I’m learning how to be a better exerciser and how to meal plan, and generally how to take control of my life and use my time wisely. Sure, I definitely have days where I binge-watch Netflix and shirk all responsibility, but I’m going to be trying harder to push myself to reach my goals and accomplish my dreams before life passes me by.
What I’m Loving:Â
I’m loving these last few days of summer before fall sets in. I really do love the fall (like a LOT) but there’s just something special about the hot days of summer that we in Seattle only see for a few weeks out of the year. I’m going to try to treasure these remaining sunny days so that I can carry their warmth with me when the chill and rain of the rest of the year sets in. You should live it up, too! 🙂
