I’m SO excited to finally reveal to you today our laundry room makeover! It was actually really quick to give it a whole new look, so I’m not sure why we didn’t do it sooner! When we moved into our house almost 2 years ago, we weren’t exactly impressed with our designated laundry space. It is a tight tiny area that has 3 doors/openings – one to the garage, one to a bathroom, and one out into the kitchen and living area. So very little wall space and very little space in general!
We were also the not-so-proud owners of a washer/dryer combo stack from literally the 70s. We think it was original to the house. Seriously. The washer barely held anything (and broke when I tried to wash our new king duvet) and the dryer wouldn’t work unless you wedged a piece of cardboard in the door. And even then you had to set the dryer to run for 1.5 hours for anything to remotely dry. Funsies.
And did I mention it was all surrounded by lovely orangey wood paneling and a dingy scuffed up ceiling? Yep. (Also, how does one scuff a ceiling?) Oh and some random boards nailed to the wall. Simply stunning. Here’s what we were working with. This is the view from the garage:
I tried covering up the walls with a cat tea towel but to no avail. The pet carrier was there to keep our new puppy out of the bathroom where the cat’s litterbox is. Yay!
See that little bit of cardboard in the left top corner of the door? Yeah, it wouldn’t run unless you wedged something in there. Also note the dingy ceiling and the cobwebs everywhere. Oh and I almost forgot my favorite feature – the shell lamp (complete with dead bugs inside for a fun surprise!):
Yeeeeep. So that’s where we started. Super fun and awesome, right? Well as much as I didn’t like looking at this space, changing it got put on the back burner while we focused on some other, bigger projects, like our Stikwood pallet wall in the living room. Plus we were waiting for the washer/dryer to go out before moving and painting everything. And what do you know, the 40+ year old washer went kaput when I tried to fit a king-sized duvet I had just bought into it. Huzzah!
So we got the new washer and dryer installed, painted the walls white, and added some fun accents and lighting that was a bit more modern et voila! An updated and gorgeous laundry space that’s MUCH prettier to look at π
Let’s take a full tour around this petite space, shall we?
I found the most perfect little rolling cart at Target that can hold some of my cleaning necessities like the laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets, and Swiffer pads all where I can easily reach them. I love how it fits perfectly between the wall and the washer!
Nice shiny new machines that actually WORK. What a concept! π We actually have really liked these Samsung machines so far. They even play a fun little musical ditty when the are done running haha
I got a fun little broom holder to organize all my brooms and mops so now that corner is MUCH more organized! The vacuum just slides right in next to the washer for easy access. Plus there is even a bit more storage space in the back if I find I need more room for things!
I made some fun laundry room art using my Silhouette – check out the tutorial here! I also found a cute gray felt leaf banner at Target and decided to hang that up as well to break up all the white space.
Love coming into this space now! <3
I made a little drop zone for when we come in from the garage. Perfect for bags, umbrellas, jackets, and dog leashes! I also have the stool there because the buttons on the dryer are too high for little ol’ me to reach. Womp womp.
View into the kitchen and the rest of the house. Ignore the puppy chaos! And all the orangey cabinets. As you can tell, the previous owners were a fan of orangey. Those will be next to go!
Goooodddbyeeeee shell light and HELLO gorgeous modern light. So much cleaner and simpler! Ahhh.
And a view from the garage once more to finish it all off.Β *sigh of relief* I’m so glad it’s finished! It took a day to paint, a day for the people to install the new washer dryer, and a day to make the art and hang the rest of the accessories. Overall, a pretty quick turnaround for such a pretty space! I definitely like doing laundry a whole lot more now that I have functioning machines and a visually pleasant place to do it!

What do you think of my laundry room makeover?
Love it! So jealous! π
Thanks so much, Sage! I’m definitely more happy when I have to do laundry now (if that’s possible π ) haha
Holy smokes Erica! That transformation is absolutely incredible!!! LOVE it!!!
Thanks so much, Kristi! It’s absolutely muuuuchh more my style now π
It’s fabulous! It’s so light and breezy feeling…what a big improvement!
Seriously such a big improvement. And so glad to have one more thing crossed off my never-ending list! π
Oooh, I love it!! So envious you have both appliances in the same room – at the mo I have my washer in the kitchen (wedged in behind the fridge) and my dryer in the downstairs bathroom the other side of the house! Argh. Laundry is not fun. But – one day we’ll be building a kitchen extension, at which point my current kitchen becomes laundry/utility room, and then….then it will be beautiful! Til then I will just have to gaze sadly at yours.
Oh no! Having the machines split like that would drive me bonkers! So sorry you have to deal with that. No fun! Can’t wait until you get your kitchen extension!! π
What a great transformation! It looks so crisp with the white paint! Love the wall art too!
Thank you so much, Michelle! I’m definitely loving the white too – it feels crisp and clean like a laundry room should! π
Nice job! The laundry room looks so much betterββcleaner and brighter. π
Thank you so much, Vashti! It definitely makes me happier to walk in there now that it’s all made over π
It turned out awesome, Erica! I’m dying to revamp my laundry room now. Such a huge improvement from the before!
Aw, thanks so much, Lauren! It’s definitely a happier and prettier space now π Can’t wait to see what you do to yours!
