I’m not going to lie, the thought of bringing our newborn daughter home and trying to get any semblance of sleep is one of the things that scared me most about having a child. A fairly paranoid person by nature, I was so sure I would be up every 3.28 minutes (or lets be real, seconds) making sure that my baby was breathing each and every night. I was envisioning sleepless nights, constant worry, and likely a cranky baby to boot. And I wasn’t sure how to get around that. I was practically resigned to just being a walking zombie for the next several months.
That all changed when I heard about HALO. Most of you veteran mamas probably know all about them, but HALO is an AMAZING company that makes products designed to help babies sleep safer, and moms rest easier. Some of their top products are SleepSacks, which eliminate the need for dangerous blankets, and their Bassinests, which are among the top bassinets on the market for safe and comfortable sleep. So when I got the opportunity to work with HALO to try out some of their products with our new baby girl, I literally jumped at the chance. I would do anything to try to save my new mama sanity! You can check out their story and mission by checking out a quick video HERE.
HALO generously gave me their premiere series Bassinest model, a SleepSack, and one of their newer products – the Bassinest portable stand, to try out. And let me tell you, these products have made the transition into a new mama SO much easier. Holy whoa.
I’m pretty sure that HALO SleepSacks are amongst my favorite things on the entire planet. Our daughter sleeps in one every single night and for almost all her naps during the day. And they are literally a lifesaver. Like most newborns, our little girl has a pretty strong startle reflex, so if her arms are free to roam, she ends up smacking herself in the face or surprising herself. But with the SleepSack, we can secure her arms to her sides, which makes her feel safe and cozy enough to fall asleep almost instantaneously and keeps her asleep far longer than when she isn’t wearing it. I also love that it has the option of different ways to wrap. Ever since she was in the womb, our little one loves having her hands by her face, and the SleepSack makes it super easy to wrap her so her hands are up by her face like she likes, without leaving her arms free to flail and wake her up. And can anyone say double zipper for easy middle of the night diaper changes?? GENIUS. The new HALO SleepSack platinum feature the convenient two-way zipper. HALO SleepSacks also come in all sorts of prints, sizes, and even materials – we have fleece ones for when it’s chillier, and cotton ones for when the weather warms up. I love how that means she never has to be without a swaddle, no matter what the weather is!
And I can’t even begin to talk about how much peace of mind the Bassinest gives me. I knew I wanted to have our daughter in our room, but not co-sleeping in our bed, for her first year of life, but things like playards, rock and plays, and Moses baskets either seemed too clunky and bulky, hard to get her in and out of, or not safe enough. I wanted to follow the AAP’s safe sleep guidelines to ensure maximum sleep for our little one and maximum peace of mind for me.
Hellooooooo HALO Bassinest! The moment I laid eyes on it during my research I knew it was the one. I love how it swivels 360 degrees so I can have her pulled right up next to the bed while we sleep, and then easily push it out of the way when it’s time to get up and change her diaper in the middle of the night. Fun tip – this swivel motion also serves as a great way to ‘rock’ your baby while she’s in the Bassinest to get her to sleep!
The mesh sides are also a huge plus for me. With my paranoia about making sure the baby’s breathing, it’s so reassuring to be able to see her through the sides for a quick check here and there and knowing that even if she does somehow manage to press her face against the side, she’ll still be able to breathe. It’s also great for regulating temperature by circulating the air and making sure she doesn’t get too hot. Win-win.
I also can’t rave enough about the lowering side wall. As someone who is short, and who also had a c-section, it is so unbelievably nice to be able to get my baby girl easily in and out of her bed on my own. I don’t even have to get out of bed to do it! I just swivel her over, lean on the side wall, and easily lift her out and into my arms for a late night feeding or morning snuggle. This has been especially nice as I recover from my c-section – having the lowering wall places less strain on my torso and incision and that’s definitely something this new mama is thankful for!
The model I received also has a cool Soothing Center attachment that has a night light, lullabies and nature/womb sounds, vibration settings, and a nursing timer. It’s so nice to have all those functions on hand at the touch of a button – particularly the sounds. Our little one doesn’t sleep without white noise, so having a sound machine literally attached to her bed makes life so much easier!
One other super cool product that HALO has put out is the Bassinest portable stand. I’m not yet at the point or comfortable enough where I can leave my daughter to nap in another room by herself, so I like having her close by during the day. But as a work-from-home mama, I also need to be able to get work done and have a safe place for her to nap near me. Enter the Bassinest portable stand! You simply pop the bassinet portion off the top of the permanent stand and then place it into the portable stand wherever you need it. I love having the portable stand set up in my office/craft room so I can work on projects and be able to peek over at our little one as I’m getting stuff done. It really is a life and sanity saver to have her so close by, in a safe sleep space, and still leave my hands free for getting some work done!
So basically, HALO has won me over entirely. I rest so much easier knowing that my little girl is snuggly swaddled in a secure and safe sleep space. She gets better sleep, and so do my husband and I! I love having her close to me so I can check in on her in the middle of the night with a quick peek through the mesh and ease my new mama mind even further. Thanks to HALO, it’s sweet dreams for everyone!
Thanks so much again to HALO for sponsoring this post and providing the items seen in this post! You really are a lifesaver!
