Get the Look for Less: Crate and Barrel Copycats

It’s been a couple months since I’ve done a Get the Look for Less post – have you missed them?? These posts usually take a lot of time and brain power as I scour the internet for copycat pieces. I worked on this one for about a week until I found all the matches I needed. So take a look below and check out how you can save some money on some designer furniture pieces! If you love Crate and Barrel, you’ll love the pieces I’ve discovered.

While browsing around for my next Get the Look for Less subject, I found this pretty little living room sitting area in Crate and Barrel’s online catalog that you can see HERE. I love the mixture of warm and cool colors, the metallic accents, and the lively greenery. I’d definitely like to spend an afternoon there! However, I certainly don’t want to spend all the money required to have a living room that looks like that, so I did a little hunting and found some copycat pieces that fit quite well 😉

Crate and Barrel Couch Copycat

A crucial part of any welcoming and cozy living room is a comfy couch. Picking a couch in a neutral color like sandstone, khaki, grey, black, or white is a great idea – you can change up the look of your living room in a snap with cheaper decor and accent pieces without having to try to match to an eccentrically colored sofa. Crate and Barrel has an 86″ couch for around $1500. Not bad, but not great. I found an almost exact 86″ look-alike at West Elm for less than $800. Score.

Crate and Barrel Rug Copycat

An area rug can make or break a room. Often the biggest piece in a room, the colors and patterns can either compliment the space, or take away from it by being distracting. Look for a rug that has your desired accent colors in a pattern that won’t overwhelm your space. The subtle geometric 8×10 rug from Crate and Barrel is almost 1k, which is pretty good for a big rug, but I was able to save a few more dollars by finding a look-alike at RugsUSA which often has sales and specials.

Crate and Barrel Coffee Table Copycat

If your living room is small, ditch the clunky wooden coffee table and consider a table with a lighter profile and a glass top. Not only will it take up less visual space, but it will provide an interesting shape for the eye to rest upon in your living space. The modern gold and glass coffee table from Crate and Barrel is pretty. Pretty expensive. I found an almost exact replica at Wayfair for a much more palatable price.

Crate and Barrel Side Table Copycat

It’s not a requirement these days to mat your side tables to your coffee table. Even just having a similar element can really tie everything together. For example the gold legs echo the coffee table, but instead of a glass top, this side table from Crate and Barrel has a marble top. Just enough to mix it up. But for almost $600, I wouldn’t be too keen to buy it. I found a similar table at Wayfair for just over 100 smackers. Not bad!

Crate and Barrel Lamp Copycat

Lighting in a living room isn’t something to be overlooked. When choosing lamps for your space, consider what activities you’ll be doing – do you need light for reading? Light in a specific area? Dimmers? Lamps on side table like this one from Crate and Barrel are always a good default and provide a decent amount of light. But close to 200 bucks for a single lamp is a bit much for the everyday budget. I found a similar lamp at Pier 1 for less than $60. Now that’s illuminating!

Crate and Barrel Blanket Copycat

A cozy blanket is basically a requirement when it comes to a comfy cozy living room. Choose a throw in either a neutral or complimentary accent color so it doesn’t look out of place if you just leave it out lying on the couch. Crate and Barrel has an alpaca hair throw, but the price tag is a little ridiculous. If found one at Wayfair that’s just as comfy but for a fraction of the price.

Crate and Barrel Throw Pillow Copycat

Throw pillows round off the look of your living room and are perfect for pillow forts or movie night cuddles. Look for pillows in complimentary colors and comfy materials. Remember, you don’t have to get matchy matching pillows – a variety of shapes and colors makes for an effortlessly chic look. Crate and Barrel has pillows for almost $50 a pop, but I found a much more affordable option at Wayfair.

Bonus!

Crate and Barrel shows a beautiful fiddle leaf fig in their catalog image at the top of this post, but I couldn’t find one you could purchase on their website. So I decided to let you in on a little secret – you can get an awesome faux one from Hayneedle for a little more than a hundred bucks! If you have a black thumb like I do, a faux fiddle leaf fig will not only look great, but you don’t ever have to worry about killing it! That’s a win-win 🙂

Now it’s time to add it up.

Alright, if you purchased all of the brand new Crate and Barrel living room pieces, your grand total would be $4,298.95. That’s quite the chunk of change. Now, if you were to buy all of my look-alike copycat pieces your total would be *drumroll*… $2,300.96. That’s a savings of 46%!

And remember, you can always save even MORE by employing patience and hunting at garage sales, Craigslist, or waiting until a store has a sale or special. Still, almost 50% in savings is pretty darn good, wouldn’t you agree? 🙂

What’s your favorite part of this Get the Look for Less installment?
