Halloween is just a few weeks away, which is crazy. Do you know what you’re dressing up as yet?? (If you need costume ideas check here!) I don’t know about you, but I’m always a little bit lacking when it comes to the Halloween decor department. I’ve got Christmas and fall down pact, but Halloween hasn’t been getting the decor lovin’ it deserves! So I decided to make an adorable DIY glitter owl no-carve pumpkin that I can reuse for years to come. Check out the easy-to follow tutorial below!
DIY No-Carve Pumpkin Materials
– Glitter
Step 1
Open up your desired design in your Silhouette Studio design software and size it to fit your pumpkin. To cut the double-sided adhesive paper, select it from the materials list in the cut menu and adjust your blade to a depth of 4 so it will cut through all the layers!
Step 2
Place the adhesive paper yellow-side down on your mat. I would suggest using a light hold cutting mat versus a regular cutting mat so the paper doesn’t get stuck and tear when you try to peel it off. Insert the mat into your Silhouette CAMEO and hit “Send to Silhouette” in the software.
Step 3
Once the Silhouette finishes cutting, remove the cutting mat and carefully peel off the whole sheet, keeping the layers intact. Pop out your design and weed out the white layer, the adhesive middle layer, and the yellow bottom layer for the pieces you don’t want. You should end up with your design with holes where you don’t want any glitter and white where you do want glitter. Once you’re satisfied with your weeding, peel off the back yellow layer and stick your design to your pumpkin.
Note: Pumpkin surfaces are often uneven, so try to get your design as straight as possible. Press down on the white paper, making sure you get the sticky layer into the grooves of the pumpkin before peeling off the white layer. If you are using a real pumpkin, make sure your surface is completely dry before applying!
Step 4
Peel off the white paper, revealing your adhesive design underneath. Slowly pour your glitter on the sticky area and spread it around with either your fingers or a dry paint brush. I like to do projects like this in a cardboard box to avoid getting glitter everywhere #herpesofcraftsupplies
Brush off the excess with a dry paint brush to get a crisp clean look and add more glitter if needed. Simple as pumpkin pie 😉 Check out the final result!
A happy, sparkly little owl that’s perfect for a quick no-carve pumpkin project! I love that it fits the Halloween theme without being too spooky or cheesy.
You can repeat this project with any number of designs and glitter colors. It brings a smile to my face to bring this little guy out year after year 🙂 Happy Halloween and happy crafting!
This is such a cute project! I hope you will share it with us at The Crafty Corner link party this week. 🙂
Thanks so much, Antonella! 🙂
