It’s that time again – time for the Monthly Silhouette Creator’s Challenge! I just adore my CAMEO so much – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – it has to be my favorite crafting tool ever. Seriously. I love busting it out and making custom pieces for me and my family and friends.
A couple of months ago I made a kick-a Harry Potter t-shirt, last month I made some fun British phone booth art. This month? I decided to make a fun customized tote bag. One of my favorite bands of all time is Coldplay. Their music just speaks to my soul and one of my favorite songs is “Fix You.” I found a song lyric in the Silhouette Design Store and just knew it would look great on a tote bag. ‘Lights will guide you home’ is a pretty good lyric to have on a bag you take around with you, isn’t it? π
Tote bags are awesome. I love taking them out and about use them for everything, from groceries, to laptop transportation. It’s even better when you can customize it to fit your style and personality! Follow along with the tutorial below to make your own π Then stick around to the end of the post to see all the other great projects that my fellow blog friends made!
Coldplay Song Lyric Tote Bag Materials
Step 1
Open up the design in your Silhouette Design Studio (you can find the design here) and size it to fit your tote bag. Then flip it by selecting ‘object’ > ‘mirror’ > ‘horizontal’. Β In the Cut Menu, select the material as “heat transfer material: flocked” and then hit ‘Send to Silhouette’ once you’ve loaded the material into your CAMEO. Easy Peasy!
Step 2
Once your design is cut, weed out the pieces you don’t want. Position your design on your tote bag until it is straight and centered.
Step 3
Put a hand towel or piece of fabric over your design and then run your iron over the piece, using slow, long passes. Peel back the transfer plastic – if the design still comes up with it, replace the plastic and the fabric and then iron some more. Then just peel to reveal!
And all done!
Looks great hung by my front door with my customized Family Established Sign, doesn’t it?
This is the perfect tote for bringing books around. I love the fuzzy gray on the black background!
I just love totes and I’m so giddy to add this one to my collection, along with my cherished Powell’s Books bag! All the heart eyes!

I love the bag. I have been wanting to stencil my own bag, so this is a great reminder of that. I too love quotes and song quotes and this is a great way to showcase it!
Thanks so much, Tiffany! I really enjoyed making this tote and it’s fun carrying some of my fave song lyrics around! π
That tote is adorable! But I am absolutely obsessed with the little gold geometric fox canvas in one of the pictures. Can you tell me where you got it or how you made it? Thanks!
Thank you so much, Shannon! I made it using my Silhouette machine π I have a tutorial here that I made for some larger scale foxes: https://www.dwellbeautiful.com/geometric-fox-art/
Wow, all of these projects looks so great! It seems like they would be relatively easy to from home on your own as well, especially with such a thorough tutorial! Love the font and quote you chose here. Very nicely done! Thanks so much for posting!
