Copper has become a HUGE trend in home decor among interior designers and bloggers and I find it is popping up more day by day. Metallics have always been popular, with gold being tops the past couple years. Now it’s sister, copper, is making her way into the limelight. It’s a unique metal, with eye-catching and varying shades from brand-new (or dirty, for that matter) penny to almost a rosey pink. And of course you can get all sorts of beautiful greens and blues if you let the copper develop a patina! So versatile.
At first I wasn’t completely sold on copper, I’ll admit it – I’m very attached to my gold and silver! But the more I’ve seen it, the more I like it. It packs a uncommon punch that will liven up any space with it’s shiny and unexpected hue. I’ve gathered up some fantastic DIY projects and home decor pieces that really show copper off and how you can use it to your advantage in your own home.
Copper Lighting
One of my favorite ways to bring a little copper into your home is through lighting. It’s not a big commitment, but is just enough of a change-up to make your space pop. There are just so many fun options! You can go big with a large globe (like in 5), or test it out with something more simple like a bulb with a copper wrapped base (see 1). You can even make a DIY version using some copper pipe from your local hardware store’s plumbing section like 3, above!

Copper Furniture and Shelving
If you want to make a bigger commitment or a more impressive impact, consider adding some furniture or shelving in this bold metallic. I especially love copper pipe paired with wood tones or bright white, as seen in 1 and 5. Such a fun way to display your treasures! If you want to try your hand at DIYing some copper furniture, take a can of some spray paint to an old chair (4) to breath some new life into it or grabΒ more pipe from the plumbing aisle and make a trendy laptop desk as shown off in 2!

Copper Wall Decor
Wall decor is a fun and easy way to spice up your space and trust me, copper will fit in right at home. It doesn’t have to be crazy difficult to achieve – adding this metallic can be as easy as using a copper pipe to hang a banner or weaving project (3 and 5) or you can make something using smaller pieces from the hardware store, such as brackets, elbows, and connectors (1, 2, and 4). Copper fittings are actually surprisingly budget-friendly and are easy to put together for a look that’s all your own!

Functional Copper Decor
Another super clever use for copper when it comes to DIY is using it to create functional decor pieces for your home. I love things that look pretty and also have a purpose! If you’re nervous about using copper in your home decor, perhaps start with something small that you’ll end up using a lot, like a clipboard or serving platter as seen in 2 and 5. Once you feel a little more emboldened, try bigger project like a rack or a fancy centerpiece for your dining table (1, 4). And can I just say, I’m in LOVE with the magazine holder in 3 – so stylish and functional with the perfect balance of copper and wood.

So whether you are on the copper bandwagon, or are hesitant to give it a try (like I was!) there is a multitude of ways to bring it into your home. If you need to, start small and work your way up to bolder choices! Copper is a great accent and works extremely well with wood tones and neutrals, in addition to a number of other colors. Play around with it and see what works for you!
What do you think of the copper trend? Love it, hate it, or meh?

I love mixing metals of all kinds. Copper is cool with the right application. Love the spoons holder!
I definitely agree – copper can definitely up the wow factor if it’s used properly! It takes a bit more work to incorporate than gold or silver, I think, but when it’s done right its really cool!
Oh love these all! Thanks for including my clock. π I’m still a gold lover at heart too, but copper is totes growing on me! I LOVE that copper pipe chair, SO cool!

I use copper with gold, silver, and wood pieces. I mix turquoise colors with it too! Its fantastic, I love the copper. I bought some peach velvet pillows for the couch too!! Mixing the different metals really looks great together, copper is the unexpected metal. Its hard to find good pieces when shopping but its the looking for that special piece that’s the fun right?
Ooh, that all sounds so fantastic, Suerena! I really like the idea of using peach with copper – sort of a monochromatic look! It definitely is hard to find nice copper pieces, but the adventure of looking is half the fun for sure!
Meh…I like some copper just kinda sorta. I’m one of the unusal birds who doesn’t really care for the way copper looks as it ages.
I prefer gold accessories for the metallic pop.
I’m with you Judy – I don’t really like the patina copper gets, but I don’t mind if it’s shiny! Gold is definitely my go-to, though, and I don’t think that will ever change π
Copper is my fave metal. Thanks for including my shoe rack! I love all of these ideas, I think I need to get to work on some more copper projects! π
